Dancing with the Stars

Room 8 presents

This year room 8 have created their film festival movie around the hit tv show Dancing with the Stars. Each of the contestants will be dancing for their chosen charity. We decided that the charities would be the values that we think are important at school. These values are respect, striving to succeed and kindness. We are down to our final 3 contestants who will be battling it out on the dance floor to see who the overall winner is.

After watching our movie please leave us a comment and share who your favourite contestant was and let us know why. This way we will then be able to figure out who the overall winner of Dancing with the Stars room 8 2019 was.Who do you think will win?

This term our topic is call something in the water and team 4 are going to be learning about the rocky shore and all of the creatures that we will find there. We are going to be looking at who eats who in the food web so that we have a better understanding of what goes on at Pt England beach and the rocky shores around Auckland and New Zealand.

Year 5 and 6 camp recount

Last week room 8 and the year 5 and 6 students at Pt England school went on school camp. We got to sleep in tent city on our field and complete a whole bunch of really cool things. We all had the chance to write about this for our writing activity this week. We even had the chance to do a really cool reading activity which looked at what some past students at Pt England school had experienced. We would like to say a huge thank-you to all of the staff, parents and students at Pt England who made this camp possible we had the best time. Please click on the students names below to read their camp reading or writing. Please leave us a positive comment on our blog.

Home and Getting Ready for Camp

This week we are getting ready for our annual year 5 and 6 camp. We will be camping on the school field in tents! This week we are focusing on finishing off all of our work properly so that when we get to Wednesday we can just have fun and enjoy our time at camp. We have been doing some really exciting reading activities. The stegosaurus group have looked at a story called home. In this story we looked at people who had moved from countries all around the world and are now calling New Zealand home.

We looked at what it would feel like to be in the situation and how we can help people that move to our school from another country fit in. After we had completed our reading with our teacher we had to complete an activity that was linked to what we had learned and to the book that we were reading. Our WALT was to use my prior knowledge to help me understand a new text. Jasmine completed this activity and put it on her blog and we would like to share her learning on here too. If you would like to check out Jasmine's blog click on her names to take you to her work. We hope you enjoy reading our work, please leave us a positive comment on our blog.

Our Identity

This week we started our Te Reo Māori classes with Whaea Francis. During our session this week we talked about identity and who we are. We talked about our cultures and how each of us is unique and different. Each of us has different things that are important to us and our whanau. During our session we had to opportunity to draw things that show our identity and who we are. We discovered that our identity can change and that our identity is special and unique to us. Check out some of our photos.

When we went back to class in the afternoon we continued on with this activity using our chromebooks. We had a cyber smart lesson on how to find free to use images that link to our identity. We will share some of these once we have finished them.

100 Numbers

During one of our maths lessons we had to work in groups of 4 to solve this problem. We were given one sheet of paper with the numbers 1-100 on it. We then each had a different coloured pen and had to circle our numbers.

The catch was that we only have 3 minutes and we had to circle the numbers in order. Each person had a number 1, 2, 3, and 4 then we had to keep using the same pattern of people to keep the numbers going up to 100. We were interested to find out there was a pattern we found at the end. Here are some photos from us trying to figure out the quickest way to do it. We had so much fun completing this activity.
