I Am

2020 Manaiakalani Film Festival

Room 678 presents our 2020 film festival movie I Am! Trying to find a word to best describe who you are can be really difficult and we often don't think about what we are we focus on what we are not. This year we decided to focus on who we are as learners, family and kids. Our movie hopes to show that you are you and you should be proud of who you are! We really hope you enjoy our movie and remember I Am Me!

Goat Island Trip

On Monday room 8 was lucky enough to attend a trip to Goat Island. One of our students Julianna created a video about our experience and what we learnt on our trip. Please check out the video below.

Room 8 would like to say a huge thank-you to Frazer and the Auckland Zoo team for organising this with our school, Sophie from EMR who taught us how to snorkel and Nerissa from the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board who helped with the funding to make this possible. We had the best experience and have learnt so much from this and we cannot wait to continue this journey later on in the term.

Room 8 Daily News

This week we have been looking at current events and reporting on them in our own newspapers. We decided to look at the NRL nines that happened over the weekend. First we researched one of our favourite matches from the weekend. We then took that information and created our own newspaper article.

Below is Finau's version of the news. She reported on the Dragons and Cowboys finals match. She included some great information as well as giving the article a catchy title. Please click on Finau's name to access her blog and leave a positive comment.

Here are some of our classes news articles. Please check them out and read them. We would love to hear your feedback so please leave us positive comments on our blogs.

KiarahAdrianaJordanZariaJulianna and Suade have shared some amazing articles on their blogs so please check these out.

Caving Narrative

This week we have created some great pieces of narrative writing. We had to pretend that we were caver in the picture and were descending into the cave to explore the beauty beneath. We had to think about our senses so that we could make our writing more interesting and exciting to people reading them.

First we watched a video of what happens when you go caving so that we could get a sense of what we would be experiencing. We then brainstormed some ideas of what we could be doing in the cave. We had to work on keeping one idea per paragraph. We are also learning to show the reader what is going on through descriptive language rather than just telling them. Please check out some of our stories that we have written and share on our blogs this week: AngelicaAye MyatKiarahTyson and Jordan

Welcome to room 8 the class of 2020! We are a bunch of year 5 and 6 students at Pt England school who are very excited to get back into learning and to share what we learn with you. Our focus for the year is Kia mau tonu te tūmanako, Never lose Hope.

This week we have been writing down our hopes and goals for the year which we will be placing on one of our classroom walls. The reason that we are doing this is so that we can strive to achieve these goals and never lose hope on what we are wanting to achieve. We invite you to share our journey this year. Please check out what we are learning and leave us a positive comment on our blog.
