Our Identity

This week we started our Te Reo Māori classes with Whaea Francis. During our session this week we talked about identity and who we are. We talked about our cultures and how each of us is unique and different. Each of us has different things that are important to us and our whanau. During our session we had to opportunity to draw things that show our identity and who we are. We discovered that our identity can change and that our identity is special and unique to us. Check out some of our photos.

When we went back to class in the afternoon we continued on with this activity using our chromebooks. We had a cyber smart lesson on how to find free to use images that link to our identity. We will share some of these once we have finished them.

100 Numbers

During one of our maths lessons we had to work in groups of 4 to solve this problem. We were given one sheet of paper with the numbers 1-100 on it. We then each had a different coloured pen and had to circle our numbers.

The catch was that we only have 3 minutes and we had to circle the numbers in order. Each person had a number 1, 2, 3, and 4 then we had to keep using the same pattern of people to keep the numbers going up to 100. We were interested to find out there was a pattern we found at the end. Here are some photos from us trying to figure out the quickest way to do it. We had so much fun completing this activity.

The Kindness Effect

Today is the 11th annual Manaiakalani Film Festival. This year room 8 has been learning and talking about what it is to be kind and how to show kindness. We have learned that doing a random act of kindness for someone can be as simple as holding the door open or giving someone a smile but kindness does make a difference.

Room 8 decided that we should show others how to be kind and learnt that by doing a random act of kindness it can have a ripple effect and can be passed on until it could come back to you. We hope you enjoy our movie, please feel free to leave a positive comment on our blog to tell us what you thought of our movie. We hope that you can start your own kindness effect. Pass it on!

Team 5 Expo

Today team four was lucky enough to have the chance to visit Team 5 and see that they have been learning this term. As a school our topic for this term has been called I like to move it! We have been learning about the forces of motion and movement.Team 5 have studied this during the term and created some amazing things which show off the forces of motion. We saw parachutes, marshmallow shooters and paper planes. Team 5 did a fantastic job and Room 8 was very privileged to be apart of this experience. Check out some of our blog posts about this experience. Well done Team Five!

Four Forces of Flight

This term team four and room 8 have been learning about the four forces of flight. Our task this term was to create an animation about these forces and choose an object to fly through the air. We found out that the four forces of flight are thrust, weight, lift and drag. This is what each of these forces does:

Thrust - Is a force that makes something move forward and move more distance.

Weight - Is a force that makes the plan go down because of gravity.

Lift - Is a force that makes the plan go up in the air.

Drag - Is a force that makes the plane slow down.

Room 8 learnt about all of these forces and made some animations about these forces. Check out some of our amazing animations from some of our room 8 learners. They have learnt a lot and have made some really great animations this term. Don't forget to leave a positive comment on their blogs.
