Global Warming

This week for our topic we have been learning all about global warming. We found out some incredible facts about global warming and have started thinking about what we can do to make sure that we protect our planet. For one of our create tasks this week we had the chance to create a poster to inform others about global warming and what we can do to look after our planet. Please check out some of our posters and blog post below and feel free to leave us a comment.

Room 10 PENN Term 1: Activity Days

Last week team 4 students would have normally be participating in the year 5 and 6 camp. This is where we pitch tents on the school field and stay the night and have lots of really fun activities. But because of what is happening in New Zealand at the moment we decided it would be best not to run our school camp like normal. We also didn't want to cancel it completely so we had activity days at school instead. Last Thursday and Friday team four were so lucky to complete activity days at school. Here are some highlights from our time during these days! Room 10 and team four would also like to say a huge thankyou  to all of the adults who made this happen - we had some much fun!

We hope you enjoyed our video please leave us a positive comment on our blog.

Hybrid Learning - China

This week we have continued on with our hybrid learning model as we still have lots of children at home isolating. We do also have lots of children coming back to school once their isolation has finished which is fantastic! We have decided to keep the learning fun and enjoyable for everyone and thought this week we would check out another country. This week we have been learning all about the country of France. We also normally would have had year 5 and 6 camp this week so we ran fun days at school on Thursday and Friday! We thought everyone at home should also have fun on these days so we completed our learning about Moana and Encanto. Check out some of the work that we have completed this week and please feel free to leave a positive comment.

Hybrid Learning - Antartica

This week has been an interesting week for us all at school. We have had lots of people at home self-isolating due to being close contacts or being unwell so we have had to change up our learning a little bit this week. We started off the week looking at Encanto for something a bit different when on Monday we didn't have many children at school at all! So as a school we have decided to run hybrid learning. This means that we will be running online meets at home for the children who need to stay home and then have face to face learning for those children who are well and can come to school.

To keep our learning fun and interesting we have decided this week to look at Antartica and have been learning about this at home and also at school. Some of our students in room 10 have been posting all about this learning on their blogs so make sure you check out the links below!

Responsibility

This year our school value is "Responsibility." Mr J has created another outstanding visual graphic which you can see below!

As you can see our value is: Responsibility, It's up to you - Kua riro māu. This is a value that we will be focusing on all year. This week room 10 decided to find out all about responsibility and what it means to be a responsible member of our class, school, community and within our whānau. We conducted some research about what responsibility is and then thought about how we could show this at school, at home and in the community. Check out some of the facts we came up with below. Make sure to click on the name of the students so that you can check out their blog posts and leave them a positive comment on their blogs. Thankyou to Samson and Maung Maung for sharing!

The Treaty of Waitangi

This week we have been learning all about the Treaty of Waitangi. Last weekend Waitangi day was celebrated on Sunday 6th February and we had a public holiday for this on Monday. We had to find out some key facts about the Treaty of Waitangi such:

  • Where and when it was signed
  • Who signed it
  • What was written in Treaty of Waitangi
  • Other key pieces of information that we found to be important.
Once we had completed some research as a class we had to write down these four facts in our own words. Here are some facts found out by Cayden and Aliana that we have shared below. Did you know all of these key facts? Let us know what your thoughts are on our Treaty of Waitangi facts by leaving us a positive comment.

Science Week

This week we are calling our learning "Science Week." There are so many things about our world that we don't know much about, but thanks to science, we are able to take a closer look at what these things are. Science can help us understand how these beautiful things operate, and also be a lot of fun. Check out some of the learning that we have completed this week while looking at the human body and other scientific things!

Lockdown Again!

Auckland is in a Level 3 Lockdown again! Some of us are needing to go into school and complete our learning at "bubble school." Even those of us at bubble school are jumping onto our google meets and completing remote learning. It is so awesome that we can still see each other online twice a day for our google meets which you can see below!

This week for our learning we have been looking at different cultures around the world. So far we have looked at Māori culture and Pasifika culture as well as looking at some countries in the continent of Asia and Europe. We will share some more of our learning with you later on this week.

Please check out our learning on our individual blogs which are located down the side of our class blog. We hope you all stay safe and in your bubbles at home where possible!

Pt England Picnic

We have had such an exciting week at Pt England school this week! Yesterday we had Jacinda Ardern the Prime Minister of New Zealand come and have lunch with us and today we were able to have our Pt England School Picnic!

We started the day by walking down to the beach in our classes and then were able to swim, play sport, dance, bike ride and so many other fun activities! Room Ten had an amazing day at the picnic it is definitely one of our favourite events that we look forward to each year.

We hope to share some of our writing about this next week when we are back at school learning in the classroom. Please enjoy the selection of pictures from today that we decided to share.

Visit from the Prime Minister

Today we were so incredibly lucky to meet the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern! At school last week we started to get free lunches at school and some of us wrote letters to thank her. Mrs Moala and Room 21 sent her in a video of how much we love our lunches at Pt England School. Jacinda Ardern loved our video so much that she came to have lunch with Room 21 and then walk around the school and meet us all.

Jacinda Ardern was kind enough to have an interview with some of our year 7 and 8 students which can be accessed via the Pt England School website. Room Ten practiced their letter writing last week and wrote letters to the Prime Minster thanking her for allowing our school to have free lunches. We haven't had a chance to share these letters on our blog yet but as soon as we do we will share them with you.

Thank-you so much Jacinda Ardern for coming to our school and having lunch with us! It was such an incredible experience and is something that we will never forget. We are so incredibly blessed to be able to have free lunches in school and we all think they are super yum!

Auckland Level 3

We are back in level 3 in Auckland

Remote learning is back! This week Auckland has found itself back in level 3 restrictions that means that unless we need to come to school we are completing our learning online. Even those who are needing to go into school are joining us online for google meets each day.

Our learning looks a bit different but we are still very excited to continue on with our learning. This year our theme is "Cherish our Treasures - Tiaki Taonga." So this week we have focused our learning to incorporate the toanga in our lives. For our learning we have been designing, reading and writing about what is special to us in our lives and what we consider to be a toanga.

Today our research task was to describe and locate our toanga, what is special to us. Raphael completed the research activity and showed his family as his toanga. Check out the presentation below.

We will continue to look at what things are special to us and how we can treasure them over this week. We will continue to learn remotely online until we are able to return to school.

Please check out our individual blogs to see what they rest of Room 10 have been doing during Auckland's level 3 lockdown. Also feel free to leave us a positive comment on our blog.

Duffy Show

Today we were lucky enough to have the Duffy Theatre show at school. The show today was about Duffy and his cousin being in lockdown and trying to do their school work online while also being kind to their whanau and each other. This was relatable to us as it was something that we were really good at doing last year with having to go in and out of lockdowns and start remote learning each time.

We loved being able to watch this show and learning how to be kind to others and to our devices at home. The actors were really great and we had an amazing time. We will share some more of our highlights next week.

Thank-you Duffy!
